AutismBC Socials: Introduction to Minecraft

Intro to Minecraft (Beginner Social Group) Building a world is even more fun with friends, especially in a space that moves at your pace. Intro to Minecraft is a welcoming, beginner-friendly program designed for children and youth who are new to Minecraft and new to our programs. These sessions offer a quieter, slower-paced experience where participants can explore the game, build confidence, and connect with peers in a supportive and moderated environment. If your child is new to Minecraft or prefers a relaxed play experience, this is the perfect place to start. About the Program Intro to Minecraft, hosted by Elysium , is part of AutismBC’s Socials Program. Our goal is to create inclusive spaces where neurodivergent children and youth can connect through shared interests, learn together, and have fun. Participants will: Learn the basics of Minecraft Get familiar with the Elysium server Play mini-games and explore together Build social connections over Zoom What We’ll Do This program takes place primarily on Elysium’s modded RPG survival world. Activities may vary each month and can include: Building structures and creative projects Exploring a survival world Farming and taming pets Trading resources with villagers and other players Participating in group challenges, mini-games, and team-based activities The Elysium Minecraft server is allowlisted, meaning only approved participants can join, creating a safe and secure space for play and social connection. The server is also available for unstructured play outside of monthly sessions. How It Works Monthly Minecraft social sessions hosted in partnership with Elysium, a nonprofit supporting neurodivergent gamers Participants join through a Zoom video call and play together on a private Minecraft server Sessions are moderated to support safety, inclusion, and positive social experiences When Last Tuesday of each month 4:00–5:00 PM PT (Unless otherwise notified) Where Elysium Minecraft Server (private, allowlisted) Zoom Video Call for live facilitation, guidance, and social connection Who Can Join AutismBC members and their children/youth Program capacity: 12 participants A waitlist will be maintained once the session is full This Program Is Ideal For Participants Who: Have been playing Minecraft for less than one year Have never played on the Elysium server before Benefit from a quieter, slower-paced gaming environment Facilitation Sessions are facilitated by Michael and Serene from the Elysium team, who support participants and ensure a welcoming, inclusive experience. Cost & Membership Program participation is free A one-time purchase of Minecraft Java Edition (PC/Mac) is required An AutismBC membership is required to participate IMPORTANT — Registration Details Registration opens on the second (2nd) day of each month at 10:00 AM. Registration closes on the Thursday before the event. Registration is first-come, first-served and runs month-to-month. Capacity is limited to 12 players. Once full, additional registrants will be placed on a waitlist. Program Pathway & Placement Participants are encouraged to start in the Intro Group before moving into the Club Intro helps build confidence, familiarity, and foundational skills Participants may be shifted between groups based on readiness, fit, and available space Our goal is to ensure every participant is supported in the environment that best suits them. Registration Requirements Participants must have: A PC, Mac, or Linux computer (Chromebooks are not compatible) A Minecraft Java Edition account (Bedrock Edition is not compatible) A microphone and headphones/earbuds A mouse ( trackpads are not recommended ) A reliable internet connection Zoom app installed A webcam ( optional but encouraged ) A second monitor or large screen ( recommended for viewing Zoom ) First-time players: If you haven’t purchased Minecraft yet, select “ First-time Registrant Assisted Setup ” during registration.
