The most underrated thing that made life easier in our family
Posted May 10, 2026
I want to start a thread of small, unglamorous wins — the stuff that doesn't make it into the parenting books but quietly changes a household.
Mine: putting a hook with the same backpack, same shoes, and same coat in the same spot by the door, every day. We stopped having morning meltdowns about "where is my…" almost overnight. It sounds trivial but it gave my kid (and me) one less decision before 8am.
Other small things that have helped us:
- Visual schedules on the fridge — even simple ones with photos.
- Noise-cancelling headphones in the car.
- A "yes shelf" of safe foods we never run out of.
- Saying what is happening next, not asking if they're ready.
What's the smallest, least-Pinterest-worthy thing that made the biggest difference in your home?
