Life beyond diagnosis: The psychosocial experiences of individuals with a sibling with autism: A qualitative study.

Published May 9, 2026

A qualitative study of siblings’ varied experiences in families that include an autistic child, conducted in Eastern and Southeastern Türkiye.

This qualitative study used interpretative phenomenological interviews with 27 siblings in Eastern and Southeastern Türkiye. It describes mixed experiences involving family dynamics, social reactions, future concerns, support, and personal growth.

This is not prevalence evidence and does not mean siblings inevitably experience burden, caregiving duties, or poorer wellbeing. Experiences vary across families, cultures, resources, and relationships.
