Safe Foods

Published May 9, 2026

A personal sensory and eating narrative about “safe foods,” food access, and individual experiences of eating.

This is a personal narrative by Kari Burroughs Kraakevik about sensory preferences, food access, and “safe foods.”

The author describes their own experiences. “Safe foods” is not a diagnosis and is not a universal autistic experience. This article is not nutrition, eating-disorder, or medical guidance.

Persistent food restriction, unintentional weight loss, dehydration, or other nutrition concerns merit support from an appropriately qualified health professional, such as a physician or dietitian.
